The tricky part of price checking an SEO service is when you are aware enough to know about the service and what you need, but don't know how much you should pay. The industry is a tricky one, and there are lot of ways that SEO companies charge. Some are a one time fee, some are contract based, and there are options all over in between.
Search Engine Submission One of the services I see a lot of is for submissions to search engines. This is an important process for a brand new site, but if you are already indexed, then there really isn't a need to pay someone for this. Even if you must do so, it shouldn't be much at all. It is so unworthy of payment, in fact, that I usually just included it in every package that I offered. I know of a service that charges $50 a month for continual submissions to the search engines and little more. This is way too much. On-Page Optimization If you are getting a company to optimize your site, and nothing more, consider what they are going to do. Get a detailed list of their processes and pay accordingly. My service depends greatly on the amount of work involved, and went anywhere from $200-$900 (a one-time fee). Usually, on-page optimization is not too work intensive. It can be a little time consuming, but most companies will not make a promise on ranking or traffic for such services simply because there is so much more to consider with regard to SEO and SEM. Because of these things, the price really shouldn't exceed $1,000. If it does, there is either a lot of work involved in optimizing your site because of some other variables (dynamic pages, Flash, etc.) or your being ripped off.
Link Building This is a really confusing service. It's really a good idea to make sure that you are educated on what is involved with link building, what a quality link will be, and what should be avoided at all cost. One of the biggest services I see are that of automated link exchanges. These will not only not help your site, but if it's bad enough, will get your site into a bit of trouble. There are a number of posts about link popularity in that category in this blog. It's very difficult for us to map out a price plan for this service as legitimate link-building can be very difficult, or extremely easy. When I first started doing keyword research for building niche keyword lists, I turned to Overture. With Overture, I could freely type in a keyword and it would generate a list of up to 100 keywords that contained the one I typed in. The problem occured when I wanted to build a list of thousands.

After reading dozens of internet marketing books, I realized that the fee-based Wordtracker was the most reliable and popular one. I've used it many times and thought it was the best keyword research tool. I could type in a primary keyword, and then a bunch of related keywords could be displayed. I could then dig deeper into each keyword to build a larger list of keywords. After using Overture and Wordtracker for some time, there were still some features left to be desired:

* Automatic keyword digging
* More keyword data sources
* Automatic KEI calculations

Automatic Keyword Digging

With this Keyword Elite feature, I could just type in a primary keyword and set a limit to how many keywords I wanted. Overture doesn't have any automatic digging feature. If I wanted to display more keywords related to one on the list of results, I would have to click on the text link to query more results. With Wordtracker, it was pretty much the same. There was a dig icon that I would have to click on. It would then query that keyword as it did with the primary.

Keyword Elite has this feature built in. It prompts the user to type in a keyword and the amount of results that you want to have. You could select 100 to 10,000 keywords. So based on you primary keyword, it will automatically dig into the primary keyword and then into it's results. This is a great time saving feature. You could enter and submit the initial parameters, take a lunch break, and then come back with thousands of keywords on your PC.

More Keyword Data Sources

With more data sources, the keyword tool would be more accurate. You would have a larger data sample representing a larger amount of keywords that people actually searched for. Since Overture's keyword suggestion tool is a product of Yahoo Search Marketing, it's results are pretty restricted. With Wordtracker, it's data only comes from meta-search engines. So again, the results are limited.

With Keyword Elite, you have a plethora of databases and retrieval options. The main options are Overture, Google's keyword suggestion tool, and Teoma's database (Ask.com). In addition to that, you could even grab meta keywords from websites related to your primary keyword. Having these options are great, considering that Google and Yahoo are the primary websites for browsing the net.

Automatic KEI Calculations

The KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index) is a popular calculation for determining the supply and demand of a keyword. Although there are other effective ways to determine the supply and demand, finding out how much competition you have is a must when planning out your websites. Overture doesn't have any KEI calculation. Wordtracker does have it, but you have to do it in bunches of 100. With Keyword Elite, you could select more than a hundred and automatically calculate the KEI. So again, you could calculate the KEI, step away from your desk, and later have the results. I prefer doing this rather than being at my PC just to click a button.

As you can see, Keyword Elite is a time saving tool. You could find a bunch of free tools to do a similar task, but how important is your time? It would be wise to use your valuable time towards tasks that actually make you money. Why not have your computer do the work and speed up keyword research for you?

This article is about the use of second tier pay per click search engines to gain traffic for your websites. By second tier I mean everyone but Google Adwords. I'm sure Yahoo & MSN take offense to this comment, but it's where we are now. Google Adwords is a given. If you're an internet marketer you are most likely already using them so this article is about the other players and where they fit in.

Yahoo is my #2 Pay Per Click choice. I don't get nearly as much traffic with Yahoo as I do Google and their 10 cent min. bid means I can't use it promote some lower converting products (you can still make money wit a 5 cents EPC if you're only paying 2 cents per click at Google) but I find that the traffic I do get from Yahoo is of extremely high quality, in fact for some keywords I get a higher conversion rate with Yahoo than I do with Google. It's more difficult to get listed with Yahoo than most other search engines but I think it's definitly worth the trouble. 9/10

After Yahoo! there is a sharp decline in the quality of pay per click advertisers but there are still some other opportunities that may be worth your time.

Enhance is a smaller player and you will definitly not see the conversions of Yahoo! or Google here. But I have seen some results with them. With these smaller search engines you usually have to do some testing to see what works with them. The positive of course is that there's much less competition than Google & Yahoo. Another positive is that they are currently offering a $25 deposit bonus.

Search123 is another small player that may be worth your time. I've had some success with them as well. They also give a $20 deposit bonus.

Now which small Pay Per Click engines should you avoid? Kanoodle & Brainfox. These two are absolutely awful. They will send you a ton of traffic but it's all junk and will not convert. Your money will evaporate. I made the mistake of trying both of them myself. I definitly advise staying away from them.

No mention of MSN Adcenter? Well while MSN figures to be the #3 player for now they are in beta mode and not accepting new advertisers. I'm in with them as a beta tester and they truly are in beta, I have had good conversions with them but there have been many bugs and I've had a hard time getting my ads up and running.

Reciprocal linking for your Internet Marketing should you or shouldn't you exchange?

The answer to that question is both yes and no. Let me explain.

When it comes down to deciding whether to exchange links or begin a reciprocal link campaign you have you have to be careful of the black hat label.

First - stay away from sites with low or zero page rank ( 0-2 ) if possible. These sites need to show value to google before you should consider exchanging links.

Make sure not to link exchange with direct competitors or similar products. You want to separate yourself from the clutter of same products or service. Try to look for sites that have complimentary items - example: you sell film for cameras so it may be a great idea to do reciprocal linking with a site that sells cameras. Do Deep research about your potential linking exchange partner by using Alexa (free tool). See if your potential link partners website is generating real traffic at all. A stale site with no real attraction to visitors will not do much for your Internet Marketing Strategy.

Note: Make sure you only exchange links with websites that are related to your business. Do not exchange links with a gambling site if you have a camera film website, Google can smell a rat from a mile away so do not put your website in a bad position for black hat techniques.

But don't just exchange links for Googles Search Engine. Do reciprocal linking because you and your link partner can benefit from the exchange like cross marketing, helping both websites generate more traffic and supply more options for your visitors which may help you both grow your business online.

How do I exchange links with other webmasters?

When you go to a website you would like to exchange links with see if they have a links page, if so contact the webmaster. Make sure that you look over the website carefully looking for red flags that may hurt your ranking in search or hurt your reputation online. When you contact the webmaster let him know you looked at his site and explain why you think both of you can benefit from this partnership of exchanging links. It is usually helpful to place his link on your site before contacting him and when you send your request inform the webmaster that you already placed link on your site and it will only remain for 10 days. If there is no response remove this link from your links page.

So even thou one way linking seems to hold more weight in search, reciprocal linking still has a place and value in you Internee Marketing.

I could write a lot of pages, maybe even a book explaining what pay per click marketing is and what it can do for your business, but I will keep this short and to the point. Pay per click (ppc) marketing is an advertising platform in which you bid an amount of money that you are willing to pay for a click.

When a searcher does a search at Google all of the ads on the right side of the screen are ppc ads. Google calls them sponsored listings. When a surfer types in a keyword, the advertisers who have bid on that keyword have their ads displayed. When one of the ads is clicked by the surfer they are taken to the advertiser s website. The advertiser is charged at maximum, the amount they ve bid. Most of the time they are charged less than what they have bid. But they are never charged more than their maximum bid.

The bids can start at 1 cent and depending on the market and the ppc search engine, go up to $50 or more per click. When starting off I suggest bidding very low. Ten to fifteen cents per click or lower is a good start. The higher you bid the higher in the rankings your ad is shown therefore increasing your ad s visibility and your potential visitors. The downside is bidding high can cost you a lot of money and in some cases bring you way over budget. Be very careful when bidding.

Bidding low might not get you as much traffic as bidding high but it will bring you traffic for much cheaper thus increasing your return of investment (ROI). One way to increase the amount of times your ad is shown (visibility) while bidding low, is to bid on a high volume of keywords. Some marketers bid on hundreds and up to hundreds of thousands of keywords.

This method will take some time. Putting together hundreds or thousands of keywords can be time consuming, but it is an effective strategy for getting quality traffic, without paying a lot of money. The more you work with the ppcs the faster you will get at putting together lists of keywords.

What can ppc marketing do for your business? Depending on your market, ppc marketing can be a great way to get quality traffic inexpensively, increasing your ROI and profit. It is also a great method for testing products because your ad can go live in as little as 15 minutes and up to 5 business days. Depending on which ppc search engine you use.

Advertising your business at free search engines a.k.a organic search engines can take weeks or even months for your website to be indexed in their directory. It can take a lot longer than that to get a decent ranking on your search terms. The more competitive the keywords you are trying to get listed, the harder it is to obtain a decent ranking. This is one reason why ppc search engines have a huge advantage over organic search engines.

I, as well as thousands of other marketers think the best two ppc search engines are Google Adwords and Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly Overture). Google claims your ad can go live in 15 minutes but it usually takes a couple of hours. This is really fast. Yahoo! Usually takes a couple of days.

There are thousands of smaller ppc search engines. Some of them are good and some are not. Some will take your money but will not have many searchers. Google and Yahoo have hundreds of millions of searchers every day. If you think about using a smaller ppc do some research and find out what experiences other marketers have had. There are thousands of forums, newsletters, ezines and info sites dedicated to educating people about ppc marketing. You can learn a lot about Google Adwords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and a lot of the smaller (2nd tier) ppc search engines at these places.
